How to advance one's knowledge in Maintenance and Reliability Leadership - Just my thoughts

I am always thinking of ways to advance one's knowledge in Maintenance and Reliability Leadership and make an organization more successful. Here are a few ideas.
First remember:
Insanity: "Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome"

A few simple ideas.

  1. Use the Certified Reliability Leadership (CRL) training to educate yourself, offered by ReliabilityWeb, your maintenance team, and later plant leadership, 30 minutes a week. Knowledge is critical to your success. .
  2. Develop an excuse list for yourself (private), your maintenance team (post in maintenance shop), and production (share with Plant and Production leadership privately, yes I am getting soft)
  3. Identify 4 Leading and 4 Lagging metrics you can use to measure the effectiveness of your maintenance or reliability process. Trend these on a line graph for a month before making any changes. If want to calm down reactivity and add to it. Post these in the maintenance shop and do not discuss with anyone for 30 days.

Below are a few KPIs you could use.

Leading - Emergency/Urgent (labor hours - if you do not use your CMMS/EAM effectively then use a piece of paper or your computer)  (Leading indicators lead to results, lagging indicators are the results)      Lagging - Production Capacity by Shift, by day, by month     Leading - # of minor stops on production line by day by month
