Maintenance Planner to Maintenance Technician Ratio |
Based on my experience the required Maintenance Planner to Maintenance Technician is a function of the Maturity of a Maintenance Process. When a Maintenance Process is mature, the ratio of Maintenance Planner to Maintenance Technician is higher (as much as 25:1). When the Maintenance Process is not matured, these ratios are much lower (as low as 8:1).
The rationale for this is that if the maintenance process lacks maturity then the planner has to “chase” parts for maintenance. I always like to use the phrase.
You know you are in Reactive Maintenance if:
“Your Maintenance Planner is called to assist maintenance locating parts during a breakdown” (I know, your organization is different, got it. Put it on the excuse list "Why you are continuing to struggle in Reactive Maintenance?")
