“In 2004 one of the largest fiber optic cable companies in the world could not keep up with production demands and trying to adjusting to the market became a large problem”
I was asked to assist in decreasing breakdowns through improvements in maintenance process. (they thought maintenance was the problem) their

I conducted a site assessment and found Maintenance and Production both had similar problems. Both departments were 100 percent reactive even though Management thought it was a Maintenance Problem. They were looking for a “magic wand” however what hey needed was real change.

Starting with a financial analysis (how much money is on the table), provided education (showing people what good looks like) and measuring all processes, maintenance, production and engineering. Once a short and long term plan were in place they acted. Within the first 6 months capacity increased by over 40% worth millions of dollars.
LESSON LEARNED: When either Maintenance or Production have problems the reality is the problem can only be resolved through partnership, honesty, and education. The first step in this process is education in Best Practices in Maintenance, Production, and Reliability.
